Each semester, you'll chat with your advisor before registering for classes.
Advisors:
help you complete your degree requirements and graduate on-time,
advise you on the best way to choose or change your major,
and point you to the right classes for your interests.
Getting ready for the next semester
As the next semester approaches, take some time to prepare:
Create a list of questions to discuss with your advisor. Your advising appointment is the best time to get answers about classes you're interested in, academic concerns you have, your degree requirements and your progress towards graduation, other majors you're considering...
Don't skip your advising appointment! If you do, you'll get an advisingholdand won't be able to register.
Check out theSchedule of Classesto start planning your schedule around what you must take and would like to take, so you and your advisor can build the right plan for you.
Meet with your advisor
You must meet with your advisor each semester in order to register for the upcoming term. You can find out who your advisor is in yourStudent Center; select Academic Planning and then select SOAR (Student Online Advising). On the left side of the page, you will see your assigned advisor under your name and contact information.
Your advisor is determined by the major you choose:
Haven't figured out what your major is yet? No worries! You'll be paired with an advisor in University Division.
If you have declared a major, you'll be paired with an advisor in the school responsible for it.
