How to get financial aid when studying on another IU campus

If you’re an IU Bloomington student who wants to receive financial aid while studying at another IU campus, you’ll need to file a consortium appeal. Please submit all documentation at least one week prior to the end of the semester for which you are appealing. Appeals submitted during the last week of the semester are not guaranteed to be processed.

You can receive aid for only one semester of attendance at another campus, unless one of the following is true:

Your attendance on another campus is specific to your program of study.
Your enrollment is split between IU Bloomington and the other campus, with 50 percent of your total term credit hours being taken at IU Bloomington.

What’s a consortium?

A consortium is a contract between you and IU that allows you to use your financial aid from your home campus at another IU campus.

Meet these criteria

If you’d like to be considered for a consortium to study at another campus, you must meet the following criteria*:

The courses you’re taking at the other IU campus must be required to earn your degree.
To study at another campus during the fall or spring semester, you must:
- Have completed at least one full academic year at IU Bloomington.
- Have one of the following situations:
  - A clear academic purpose for attending another IU campus. For example:
    - The class isn't offered at IU Bloomington.
    - Your academic program requires you to attend another campus.
To study at another campus during the summer, you must:
- Have completed at least one term at IU Bloomington.

IU Indianapolis
IU East
IU Fort Wayne
IU Kokomo
IU Northwest
IU South Bend
IU Southeast
IU Columbus

Submit a consortium appeal

Enroll in the courses at the other IU campus.
Submit your consortium appeals.
Once your appeal is submitted, your course list will be forwarded to your assigned academic advisor to confirm that the courses submitted are required for your degree and/or minor.
