Find funding for your college education

You have a lot of options when it comes to finding financial aid to pay for college. Before you borrow money, make sure you understand the types of aid that are available.

Scholarships

Depending on your academic achievement or financial need, you may qualify for one or more scholarships. Scholarships are known as “gift aid” and don’t have to be paid back.

If you have financial need, you may qualify for one or more grants. Grants are known as “gift aid” and don’t have to be paid back.

Loans

You can apply to borrow money from the U.S. government or from private lenders. Loans must be paid back with interest, usually after you finish your education—even if you don’t complete your degree.
