An apostille certifies that a document is a true copy of the original. Official documents that will be used outside of the United States often require an apostille.

How to get an apostille
To request an apostille on your IU Bloomington transcript or diploma:
- Complete and sign an apostille request form.
- Include a pre-addressed, postage-paid envelope (U.S. Postal Service or FedEx).
- Follow the instructions for submitting the form.
Note that it will take two to five business days after receipt of your diploma or diploma photocopy to process your request, so plan ahead. Processing a document with an apostille takes extra time, because it must be sent to the Indiana Secretary of State before it can be delivered. In addition, if you need to order a duplicate diploma for your apostille, expect it to take an additional month.
