Guide to Smart Planning and Financial Aid Success

No matter if you're an undergrad or grad student, we've put together helpful information to make managing college costs, financial aid options, and expenses easier for you. With some smart planning, you can make the most of the aid available and reduce financial stress throughout your college experience.

Getting started

Navigate to One.IU on the web browser of your choice.
Log in to One.IU with your IU username and passphrase.

Recommended authorizations

Search for Duo on One.IU and select Two-Step Login (Duo). Register a phone or other mobile device to authenticate your identity for secure services such as direct deposit.
Search for Title IV on One.IU and select the Title IV Financial Aid Authorizations app.
1. Choose Grant Authorizations.
2. Select Bloomington campus, then press Next.
3. Check the box and submit.
On One.IU, search for Set Up, and select the Set Up Parents or 3rd Party Users (Students) app.
1. Set a username, password, email address, and permissions for any person you wish to have access to your bill and/or record.
2. Repeat for any other person you would like to have access to your account.
If you know your bank account number and routing number, search for Direct Deposit in One.IU and select Direct Deposit of Bursar Refunds. If you don’t have quick access to this information, you can easily do it at home later.

Immunizations

Submit your documentation at Med+Proctor. Students who do not show immunization compliance may have interruption in their ability to continue their education at IU, in the event of an outbreak.

Financial aid checklist

On One.IU, search for Student Center.
Check your To Do List in the sidebar on the right. If you see the below items follow the appropriate actions.
1. If you have been selected for verification. Check in with a Student Central representative and follow the instruction in the email you received.
2. Final HS Transcript— for undergraduate students. As long as it’s been completed by August, there is nothing you need to do right now. If your final HS transcript has not yet been submitted, please do so as soon as possible to prevent a hold on registration.
3. If you have other items on your To Do List that you don’t recognize, check in with a Student Central representative.
Choose Accept/Decline Awards in the Financial Aid section of the Student Center. If you know your plans for financial aid, accept or decline any awards that require your action.

You may view your financial aid activity by visiting the Financial Aid Student Tracker (FAST) website. This website will provide a comprehensive view of financial aid activity for the current academic year. You can access this site at any time!

About your bill

You’re responsible for paying tuition, fees, and all other charges by the due date on your bill. We’ll email you when you have a bill to review. Make sure you’re checking your IU email account—that’s where we’ll send your billing notices.

IU email is the official communication method at Indiana Univeristy. If you have questions regarding your IU email, you can find more information on the UITS website.

The bill for the fall semester will be available in August and is due by September 10th. The bill for the spring semester will be available in December and due January 10th. To avoid late fees, be sure to pay in full or sign up for a payment plan before the due date. Release of Student Information

Grant access to your bursar bill, 1098-T tax form, grades, class schedule, financial aid award or summary, and other personal information to any person(s), such as a parent, guardian, or spouse. You can set up as many 3rd Party Users as you wish (e.g., both of your parents) but each user will need a separate login.

The Kelley School of Business FERPA release can be found on the KSB New Student Orientation webpage. You can also go directly to the online FERPA Release of Information form.

Students can give third-party authorization to perform tasks, including adding I-BUCKS or co-signing housing contracts for applicants under 18. For more information, please visit the RPS website.

If you wish to waive your rights under FERPA and allow your designated third parties to view your advising information, you may fill out a Release of Information form and designate specific third parties to whom your information can be released. More information can be found on the College of Arts and Sciences website.

Parents, employers, university administrators and faculty, and others have access to your protected health information only with your written authorization or by a valid court order. The only exceptions to this policy will be in life-threatening or emergency situations and in accordance with state and federal laws.

Important note: If you are under 18 and will need medical care through the IU Student Health Center, your parent or guardian's permission will be needed to treat you. Make sure they fill out the Consent for Medical Treatment of a Minor form.
