IU charges mandatory fees based on your total on-campus hours, whether you’re taking classes for credit or auditing them. As your enrolled hours increase, so do your mandatory fees. If you’ve been charged more than once for mandatory fees, it’s likely because you added enough hours after your initial registration to bump you to a higher fee rate.
Learn about each of the mandatory fees below.
- Activity fee
The activity fee supports campus organizations that benefit all students, such as the Student Recreational Sports Center (SRSC), campus day care, Union Board, and many more.

You can purchase SRSC and Health Center services directly from those facilities.
For Student Legal Services, you can pay your fee in person at the payment window in Poplars. You must pay by 4:30 p.m. on the Friday of the second week of classes for the term.
